The Colorado Independent, Denver Open Media, and Civic Matters are proud to host the one and only Denver Mayoral No Bullsh*t Debate on April 18 at 5 pm.

The event, moderated by The Independent’s Editor Susan Greene, will be live streamed via Denver Open Media Facebook, and broadcast live on 92.9FM and 89.3 HD3. It will also be rebroadcast on KGNU radio.

The debate will focus primarily on issues related to civil rights, transparency and accountability in Denver. We promise No Bull – just straight talk about pressing issues in our community.

CMP Webinar: Applying to the ProPublica Local Reporting Network

ProPublica is again expanding the Local Reporting Network, selecting six more news organizations to begin working on local accountability projects, beginning in July 2019. Applications are due April 26. ProPublica Deputy Managing Editor Charlie Ornstein will join CMP on a webinar for Colorado newsrooms to answer questions about the Local Reporting Network, what makes a good project idea, and the elements of a successful application.

Join us on Friday, December 7th at 4 PM for our panel discussion Media Engagement: Engaging Underrepresented Communities in Denver’s New Media Conversation

The City of Denver refused to renew OMF’s contract to operate Public Access TV and has no immediate plans to continue serving marginalized communities with Public Access equipment, facilities, and training.  In response, we are hosting a Media Engagement event.

Event Details:

  • 4:00 PM - 5:00PM Panel Discussion

    • Media Engagement Engaging Underrepresented Communities in Denver’s New Media Conversation. This panel will be lead by community members and media professionals.

  • 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Lightning Talks

    • OMF will announce the new initiative and host an partner matching exercise

  • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Reception and Member Showcase

    • Food and beverages will be provided in our upstairs lounge while DOM members will exhibit their productions created throughout the years.

  • 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM Open Music Sessions

    • Our last session of the DOM project will consist of a live music performance from Kayla Marque, along with local comedians from Sexpot Comedy, and our Denver Foundation Nonprofit spotlight,

Join us on Saturday, October 13 from 4-6 PM at KDNK for a unique conversation and radio show about media in Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, the Roaring Fork Valley, and beyond!

Your News, Your Community brings together community residents and local journalists for face-to-face, honest, open conversations about the media. Together, we will discuss: 

  • What issues are – and are not – being covered
  • How media outlets in your community are funded
  • The challenges that local journalists face
  • The emerging issue of “fake news” 
  • The future of media in this unique section of Colorado

These small group conversations will take place from 4-5 PM. The issues that arise from these conversations will be discussed on-air live on KDNK from 5-6 PM.
